Mannheim Steamroller, Carol of the Bells– The best version of Carol of the Bells ever, in my opinion!
Today I had a request from my daughter– Hilary Duff. She has fond memories of dancing to a Hilary Duff Christmas song for a holiday performance when she was younger. I’ve enjoyed some of Hilary Duff’s music, for all that she is firmly in the Disney Product category. Alas, her Christmas album is not some of her better work. After some deliberation, I chose “What Christmas Should Be” as being the least terrible. My daughter, who is a senior in high school this year, agrees that Hilary’s Christmas music sounded better when she was twelve. Even so, fond memories all round!
I had never heard of “The Friendly Beasts” until we came across an illustrated book of it in a used book sale a couple of years ago. Here’s the legendary Tennessee Ernie Ford singing it (no idea who that is singing the part of the dove) with a video showing pages of the book.
Here’s the first 7 days in one playlist!
Christmas Island. Originally recorded by the Andrews Sisters in 1946, the lyricist certainly had a fanciful notion of what Christmas Island is like. It’s not all that Christmassy, but it does have Robber Crabs. Have a Christmas Island hula here.
Kristen Chenoweth, The Christmas Waltz. This is lovely to dance to!
Gabriel’s Message by Sting. I got this from Temperature’s Rising‘s blog. It’s brand new to me. I love its medieval sound, though it’s really not that old. Thanks a lot, Mrs. Fever!
My mom had this on a Christmas record from Montgomery Ward, but of course not with daughter Natalie remixed in. I think the remix is lovely too!
